In 1988 the band Spirit Of Play, featuring the famous keyboard player Nicky Hopkins, recorded a charity single with proceeds going to the BBC’s Children In Need Appeal.  They recorded two versions of the song Children In Need at Paul McCartney’s Hog Hill Mill studio in Sussex. As a supporter of this charity appeal, Paul also played bass and helped out with the production of the song.

In the same year, McCartney also worked with Hopkins during the recording of That Day Is Done, a song written by Elvis Costello and included on the 1989 album Flowers In The Dirt. Both versions of Children In Need, originally only available on a vinyl single, can be found on box three of the 15-disc set “Do You Want To Know A Secret (With A Little Help From John, Paul, George & Ringo) 1962 – 2016”. A review can be found in the upcoming Maccazine (due summer 2017)
